Two Lauderhill restaurants were ordered to shut down this month after state health inspectors discovered health and food safety issues, including rodent and roach activity, improper food handling, and unsafe food temperatures.
On August 15, inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation cited King’s Super Buffet, located at 7101 West Oakland Park Boulevard, with 15 violations and ordered the business closed.
The inspection report detailed how inspectors discovered rodent droppings on food cans and storage racks in the kitchen, as well as on a window ledge. Inspectors also observed live roach activity on a wall above a prep sink.
Personal employee food was also discovered stored inside a cooler near the cook line, and cellphones and personal items were placed above a prep table. In addition, inspectors cited unsafe food temperatures for several food items, including bean sprouts, raw shrimp, and mussels.
Joy’s Roti Delights, located at 1205 Northwest 40th Avenue, was also shut down on August 12 following a complaint-based inspection that resulted in 13 violations. Inspectors reported live roaches crawling inside a cooler and near the bathrooms, along with several dead roaches under a prep table, near storage shelves, and by the water heater.
Food safety issues were also noted, including raw beef thawing in a sink without running water and multiple items held at unsafe temperatures, such as chicken and cooked meats, including ox tail, beef, and goat. A Stop Sale was issued for those items.
Both King’s Super Buffet and Joy’s Roti Delights were ordered closed following inspections and were ordered to correct the violations and pass reinspection before being allowed to reopen.
