Two suspects were arrested and charged with kidnapping and battery with a deadly weapon after abducting a man at gunpoint, pistol-whipping, and robbing him.
On December 18, the Lauderhill Police Department received a distress call indicating an alleged kidnapping in progress.
According to the report, the kidnapping occurred at Jimmy’s Supermarket located at 91 Northwest 34 Avenue, where a woman, later identified as Tess Pope, 42, of Oakland Park, and a man, later identified as Kelly Mosely, 35, of Fort Lauderdale, forcibly abducted a victim at gunpoint.
According to law enforcement, Mosely approached the victim and brandished a black semi-automatic firearm, threatening to shoot him.
During the ordeal, the victim sustained a head injury caused by Mosely pistol-whipping him with the firearm. The injury would later require replacement staples for closure.
The victim told officers Pope reportedly assisted in forcing him into a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander. While inside the vehicle, Mosley allegedly continued to threaten the victim with the firearm, demanding that he meet his multiple demands.
The victim reported that during the car ride, Pope pointed the firearm at his head, threatening to shoot him unless he gave her his wallet.
Pope and Mosely allegedly then drove the victim to a location where surveillance footage obtained from a nearby residence captured the trio exiting the vehicle and entering a residence.
According to the arrest report, the victim was easily able to positively identify both assailants, particularly recognizing Pope, whom he has known for over a decade.
The report indicates two witnesses observed the kidnapping and followed the vehicle from the scene. These witnesses later provided crucial testimony to piece together the case and ultimately save the victim from further harm.
Following the witness’s reports, officers arrived on the scene and interviewed Pope and Mosely, who had conflicting stories, each placing guilt on the other.
A background check on Pope revealed an active warrant out of Alabama for felony larceny, unlawful breaking and entering into a vehicle, and felony theft.
Pope and Mosely were arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where they remain.
