A Coral Springs man is charged with multiple crimes for working as an unlicensed security guard at a Halloween nightclub event in North Lauderdale, where he opened fire on a patron’s car in the parking lot, court records show.
Jimmy Adrien, 33, of Riverside Drive, who owns an unlicensed security company called Top Notch Security, was providing security at Express Restaurant & Grill, 1401 S. State Rd. 7, on Oct. 31, 2021, when a “fight broke out in the parking lot and multiple unlicensed security guards discharged their firearm into an occupied vehicle causing injury to one subject,” according to documents filed by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Adrien said he was trying to clear the parking lot of cars after the event when, amid the fighting and confusion, a black Volkswagen, with its engine revving, looked like it would hit one of his fellow security guards, records show. The female driver was also apparently armed with a gun, Adrien told investigators.
The court records did not indicate who was shot, who shot them, or the extent of their injuries. They also did not state whether anyone else was criminally charged in the incident.
Adrien does have a specific type of Florida security guard license. Still, the qualification does not allow him to legally do the work he was doing during the Halloween event or operate an unlicensed security business, according to BSO.
Adrien was arrested on April 28, following several months of investigation by BSO.
He is charged with Impersonating a Public Officer or Employee, Openly Carrying a Weapon, two counts of Violation of Private investigative Security Law, and Discharging a Firearm, public records show.
Adrien was booked into the Broward Main Jail and freed on a $9,000 bond.
He has not entered a plea in the case, court records show.
