On Saturday, the United States State Department confirmed that its office is aware of the report of a Tamarac couple that has gone missing in Haiti.
While the State Department didn’t provide any new updates on the status of the couple, Abigail and Jean-Dickens Toussaint, both 33, who were both kidnapped on March 18 while on vacation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, they made clear they’re monitoring the situation and will be in constant contact with the couple’s families.
The U.S. State Department is “aware of reports of two U.S. citizens missing in Haiti,” a spokesperson said in a statement to CNN.
“When a U.S. citizen is missing, we work closely with local authorities as they carry out their search efforts, and we share information with families however we can,” the spokesperson said. “We have nothing further to share at this time.”

The State Department’s confirmed involvement in the Toussaint couple’s kidnapping in Port-au-Prince comes less than two years after it helped coordinate the freeing of 17 missionaries kidnapped by a gang in the same city in 2021. In that case, the gang responsible for the kidnapping reportedly sought one-million dollars per hostage.
According to family members of the Toussaint couple, their captures last requested $200,000 for the couple’s safe release after the family had already paid an initial ransom of $6,000.
