Tamarac Commissioner Elvin Villalobos has drawn a challenger in the November election, setting up a race where both he and Commissioner Marlon Bolton must defend their seats.
Krystal Patterson, a Tamarac resident, business owner, and executive director of the West Perrine Community Redevelopment Agency, has filed to run for the District Three seat. The married mother of three will square off with the incumbent Villalobos, a longtime business owner and realtor elected in 2020.
As previously reported by Tamarac Talk, District One Commissioner Marlon Bolton has also drawn a challenger – resident and business owner Horatio Bryan – in the incumbent’s pursuit for a third term. Bolton was elected in 2016 and reelected in 2020.
Patterson, the challenger in District Three, is the founder and president of Tamarac-based H.E.R.S. (Helping Executives Reach Solutions) Consulting and is a former Director of Code Compliance, Parking Enforcement, and Sanitation for the city of North Miami. She lives in Catalina Lakes.
According to her biography, Patterson currently serves as Vice Chair of the Privatization Committee for the city of Tamarac, a member of the Tamarac North Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the Professional Development Committee with the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.
Among other roles, she has also served on the Municipal Administration Committee with the Florida League of Cities, as Sergeant at Arms for the Florida Association of Code Enforcement, and as 1st Vice President of the Southern Florida Association of Code Enforcement.
The wife of a law enforcement officer, Patterson holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree in public administration from Florida International University. She was recognized as one of Legacy Magazine Miami’s Most Powerful and Influential Leaders in 2023, according to her biography.
Patterson’s campaign website lists her top priorities for the city as public safety, economic development, and senior initiatives.
Villalobos, a business owner since 2010, is a licensed Florida Realtor and partner of RE/MAX InterAction Realty in Tamarac, according to his campaign website. He has served on various committees within the National Association of Realtors and is a past president of the Westwood 3 Homeowner Association and Banyan Lakes Homeowner Association.
The commissioner holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science and business Administration from Keiser University. A father of two, he lives at South Palm Place.
Among other roles, Villalobos serves as a member and trustee member of the Tamarac Chamber of Commerce, member of the Tamarac Land Development Code Advisory Committee, executive board member of Broward’s Solid Waste Disposal and Recyclable Materials Processing Authority, member of the Broward School Oversight Committee, member of the Kiwanis of Tamarac Board of Directors, and Alternate Director of the Broward League of Cities, according to his biography.
Villalobos’ campaign website says that as a commissioner, he continues to focus on issues that include improving city traffic, youth empowerment services, city infrastructure, public safety efforts, senior life, and business-friendly opportunities.
