A woman was arrested for domestic battery following a physical altercation after she discovered a sex toy in her husband’s gym bag.

On November 28, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence near the 5900 block of Royal Way.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies contacted the victim, who informed them that the dispute began after his wife, later identified as Monique Smith, 36, of Tamarac, discovered a sex toy in his duffle bag.

The unexpected discovery triggered a verbal argument that quickly escalated into a physical dispute that required BSO to step in to calm the situation.

The victim told law enforcement Smith became irate after finding the sex toy and, after some back-and-forth arguments, ran to the couple’s bedroom, where she began tossing her husband’s clothes down the stairs, demanding he leave the house.

In an attempt to intervene, the victim alleged he went upstairs to halt Smith from ruining his clothes. It was at this point that the situation escalated to a domestic assault, with Smith reportedly pushing and striking the victim numerous times on his chest and upper torso.

During the altercation, the victim sustained a small scratch on the left side of his neck. However, when officers offered to document the injuries or obtain a taped statement, he refused, expressing a reluctance to prosecute.

Despite the victim’s refusal to cooperate, BSO deputies proceeded with charging Smith with domestic battery due to injuries sustained and the circumstances that led to the altercation.

Smith was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
