A woman is facing felony assault charges after a video allegedly showed her pointing a gun at her fiancé while holding their child and pulling the trigger, though the weapon didn’t fire.
According to an arrest report filed by the Lauderhill Police Department, Learis Joanne Muniz Torres, 28, of Hallandale Beach, was taken into custody on June 2 on charges stemming from an incident that reportedly occurred on the night of May 22 outside a residence located near the 3700 block of Northwest 2nd Street.
Records show multiple agencies were involved in the case, including Dania Beach Police and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies who reviewed cellphone video footage provided by the alleged victim, Torres’s fiancé, and the father of their child.
The video reportedly showed Torres standing outside a vehicle holding a child in her left arm and a firearm in her right hand. Officers said Torres could be seen waving and pointing the gun at the victim before pulling the trigger.
While the gun did not fire, investigators noted they heard a clear “click” sound in the footage, consistent with a trigger being pulled without a round in the chamber.
Following a formal warrant for her arrest, Torres was apprehended in Lauderhill and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
