A group of Woodlands residents met at the Tamarac Community Center on the evening of April 29 to learn about and discuss the 13th Floor Homes development project.
The meeting was private, and reporters were not allowed to attend.
The developer is set to begin construction on 335 single-family homes on the two former 18-hole golf courses at Woodlands. The starting price for these homes will be from $800,000 to $1 million. According to Mayor Michelle J. Gomez, there will be a clubhouse, a pool, paddleball courts, and six miles of winding trails.
New turning lanes will be built to meet the needs of the latest development. New entryways and infrastructure will be constructed, and about 190 acres of green space will be created. The homes will be the ninth section added to the current eight sections of the Woodlands community.
Gomez was pleased to hold a meeting where residents could discuss their concerns and get answers to questions. She said about 100 residents participated.
The project is still awaiting final permits, and Gomez expects construction to begin within 30 to 90 days.
Tamarac’s city commission in March 2024 voted 3-2 to approve 13th Floor’s plan to build the community on the southwest corner of Commercial Boulevard and Rock Island Road.
Mayor Michelle Gomez and Commissioners Elvin Villalobos and Kicia Daniel voted to approve the project. Commissioner Marlon Bolton, the vice mayor at the time, voted against it along with Commissioner Morey Wright.
In July 2024, 13th Floor Homes closed on the $14 million purchase of 270 acres of land from ClubLink Corp.
