D’Andrew Donaldson {BSO}
A Lauderhill teenager has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly ambushing and shooting another teenager in the back.
According to a Lauderhill Police Department affidavit, the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. on April 5. The department was alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, prompting officers to canvass the area, where they discovered a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen inside a nearby residence.
The report shows that the victim’s mother received a phone call from the victim, indicating he had been shot and that she was on the scene providing aid until emergency responders transported her son for medical treatment. He was later reported to require a blood transfusion and had been shot through the back, with the bullet exiting through his abdomen and continuing into his right hand.
Video surveillance obtained from a nearby apartment complex showed the victim walking alone, unaware he was being followed. Moments later, a man, later identified as D’Andrew Donaldson, 19. of Lauderhill is allegedly seen running behind the victim, raising his arm and appearing to fire three shots from a handgun before he fled the scene.
Arrest records show a key break in the case came on April 11 when police were called to a domestic violence incident and spoke with Donaldson’s girlfriend, who revealed that she learned of the shooting from a mutual acquaintance shortly after it occurred.
According to her statement, Donaldson admitted to her that he had shot the victim, saying, “Yeah, I shot him,” and explained he had shot the boy in the back. She added that Donaldson “does not mind shooting people he doesn’t like.”
Further evidence came from a juvenile witness who was with Donaldson moments before the shooting. The witness confirmed Donaldson’s identity in surveillance footage and told detectives that Donaldson had returned to a local “trap house” after the incident and bragged, “I just clapped that boy.”
Donaldson was taken into custody on April 28 and transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is being held without bond.
