The City of Tamarac held a dedication on Wednesday for a new work of art that is painted on the walls of BSO’s district office.
Created by Ruben Ubiera, a neo-figurative artist from Santo Domingo, the mural is called “Lady Justice.” and is part of the VisualEYES project which features a select group of renowned South Florida artists who are creating murals all over Broward County.
“When I first heard about it, I was wondering about it. It’s a government building, so I wanted something positive – reflective of that,” said Captain Neal Glassman.
Glassman said the artist proposed three concepts, and they got to pick the final one. “I think it looks great and the concept is a good one for our building.”
Ubiera paints and draws in a style considered as Postgraffism, but he prefers to call it urban-pop, since he has lived most of his life in urban, populated areas and most of his inspiration is derived from the inter activity between man and his urban environment.
At the age of 15, his family moved to the Bronx, NY, where he was heavily influenced by the graffiti art that surrounded him, something he wouldn’t realize until much later in his life.
The mural is located in front of the BSO District Offices at 7515 NW 88 Avenue in Tamarac.
