A 3-year-old child was fatally shot in Tamarac Saturday morning, authorities said.
The shooting happened at an Extended Stay America hotel in the 3000 block of West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac shortly before 8:19 a.m. Broward Sheriff’s Office Tamarac district deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue responded to the scene, where deputies found a child suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The child, whose name was not immediately made public, was accompanied by an adult female at the time. Paramedics pronounced the child dead at the scene, according to BSO.
The child’s gender and their relationship to the adult female were not immediately made public.
Deputies quickly established a perimeter around the crime scene to investigate the shooting. BSO’s Homicide Unit detectives were notified and are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the killing.
No arrests had been announced as of Saturday afternoon. Anyone with information about Saturday’s homicide is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
The killing was the latest instance of deadly violence in Tamarac this week. On Tuesday, a man was charged with premeditated murder for allegedly fatally shooting his male co-worker at a Tamarac warehouse. On Wednesday, a man was shot to death in a separate homicide in the city, authorities said.
