Ishmel Oneil Brown {BSO}
A Lauderhill man was arrested after deputies say he repeatedly harassed and stalked a Wawa cashier both at her workplace and her home.
According to a Broward Sheriff’s Office probable cause affidavit, Ishmel Oneil Brown, 26, began approaching the victim at the Wawa convenience store on North University Drive in Lauderhill, where she worked. Over the course of June and July, she told deputies, Brown frequently lingered inside the store, attempted to initiate conversations, stared at her, and repeatedly made sexual comments.
When the victim complained to her manager, Brown allegedly confronted her, saying he did not believe she felt uncomfortable. Shortly after the victim reported that he left her a handwritten love note at her Tamarac apartment door on August 15, signed “your future husband.”
The note, which included Brown’s phone number, contained romantic requests and repeated many of the same things he had said to her inside the store, making it abundantly clear who had left the note. Investigators later confirmed the number belonged to Brown through a prior police report.
In part, records show the note Brown read, “I wrote you a poem. I just got a new job, and I want you to be my fiancée once I have the money for a ring. I know my handwriting is terrible, and I’m struggling financially right now, but please text me. That lady tried to ruin our bond, but it will never die!!”
Homeowners’ association security footage also showed Brown at the victim’s building on the day she discovered the note, according to deputies.
Wawa management confirmed to investigators that Thomas had previously reported Brown’s behavior. The store’s shift manager recalled telling him to leave the store or she would call the police.
Brown was arrested on September 3 at his residence in Lauderhill. He was transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
