Tamarac Man Found Dead After Hit-and-Run as Detectives Search for Driver 6

Detectives believe the vehicle was dark blue or black and possibly a 2012-2022 Toyota Corolla, missing its passenger-side rear hubcap. {BSO}

A Tamarac man was left dead on a swale in Pompano Beach, and now new surveillance video may help Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations detectives determine the driver involved.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, BSO deputies in Pompano Beach responded to a report of an individual lying within the grass swale in the 700 block of Southwest 10th Drive (Fairview Park).

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue also responded and pronounced the adult male victim deceased on scene. According to detectives, the injuries sustained by the pedestrian, identified as Lacurtis Knight, were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

THI detectives conducted a detailed search of the area where the victim was found and said the crash occurred at a different location. Further investigation revealed that Knight was riding his bicycle in the 400 block of Northeast 44th Street in Deerfield Beach when he fell onto the roadway. Detectives located surveillance video that shows a dark colored car coming to a stop after hitting and running over Knight. The driver exits the car, walks back to where the body is lying in the road and looks at Knight for a moment. The driver is then seen walking to the front of the vehicle and looking at the front bumper. After looking at the front of the vehicle, the driver gets back into the vehicle and leaves the scene.

Detectives believe the vehicle was dark blue or black and possibly a 2012-2022 Toyota Corolla, with a missing passenger-side rear hubcap.
