From Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine
March is here and Broward County has all the options you need for a relaxing, and fun spring break. From hopping a jet out of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, sailing away on a cruise out of Port Everglades, or having a relaxing staycation at the beach right here in Broward County, we have you covered. Check out visitlauderdale.com to see all the great events that are hosted throughout our community for residents and visitors alike.
This month, I will be participating in the annual “Broward Days” event in Tallahassee. This gathering is vital to making sure Broward County’s needs are at the forefront for the state legislature. While there, participants meet with legislators from across the state regarding bills and funding that directly impact Broward. Participants include members of the Broward County Delegation, County Commission, and League of Cities. I look forward to advocating for District 3’s constituents and making sure our community is heard.
Broward County’s Annual Water Matters Day is March 8th at Tree Tops Park in Davie. This free community event is a great opportunity for all ages to learn about the role water plays in our daily lives. Many of our local Broward Schools, municipalities, and nonprofit organizations participate in making this event exceptional. The event will have over 50 educational exhibits, children’s activities, and a tree giveaway among many displays. In addition, the NatureScape Emerald Awards will be presented which recognize exemplary NatureScape landscaping practices. A big thank you and best of luck to all District 3 applicants!
March 8th is also Parkland Day! I hope you will join us for the parade and evening event at Pine Trails Park. The first celebration occurred back in 1967 and has grown over the years. It will have plenty of fun for the whole family with great local food options, and live music. Looking forward to a great event!
March is Women’s History Month, and Broward County Libraries are hosting many events throughout the month to educate and celebrate. Events include a discussion on “Broward Women Pioneers”, discussions on national heroines such as Harriet Tubman, and programs for teenage girls about leadership and goal setting among many other topics. These great discussions are open to our entire community, and I encourage you to attend.
Finally, March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day! Celebrations will take place throughout the county including the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival in Fort Lauderdale on March 16th. Make sure to wear your green and remember not to drink and drive.
