In response to the antisemitic killings of two Israeli embassy staffers outside a Washington, D.C. Jewish museum Wednesday night, BSO Tamarac has increased patrols around Jewish institutions in the city, authorities said.
“We’re working closely with Homeland Security and the BSO Threat Management Unit to stay prepared,” the city of Tamarac said in an X post Thursday morning. “If you see something, say something.”
The increased Tamarac patrols are being conducted “out of caution,” city officials said.
Tamarac has a small but thriving Jewish community that includes institutions like Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac.
The victims in Wednesday’s attack in Washington D.C., Yaron Lischinsky, 28, a German Israeli, and Sarah Milgrim, 27, an American Jew from Kansas, were a couple planning to get engaged.
They had just attended a young diplomats event hosted by the American Jewish Committee aimed at fostering unity among Jewish young professionals and the diplomatic community.
At around 9:08 p.m., suspected gunman Elias Rodriguez, 30, of Chicago, allegedly opened fire on the couple as they exited the museum. Rodriguez was apprehended by event security after entering the museum, where he chanted “Free, free Palestine!” during his arrest, investigators said.
The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is leading the investigation, treating the incident as an antisemitic hate crime.

Last year saw the highest number of antisemitic incidents recorded in the U.S. since tracking began 46 years earlier, according to the Anti-Defamation League. A majority of those antisemitic incidents involved anti-Israel animus, officials said.
