Tamarac Fire Rescue has requested to extensively refurbish two of its ambulances instead of purchasing new vehicles.
The Commission approved a resolution allowing Fire Rescue to refurbish and remount fire rescue vehicles for a total cost not to exceed $873,212.
Fire Rescue Ambulance Units 369 and 370 have reached the end of their useful life, according to Deputy Chief Jonathan Frasher. Due to the importance of these units, replacement is highly recommended.
The Tamarac Fire Rescue Apparatus Committee recommended a remount purchase, which involves replacing the chassis/truck with a new 2025 International MV607 Crew Cab Chassis. The bodies of the ambulances will be refurbished, along with the Stryker Power Load Systems used to load the stretchers into the back of the ambulances. The Motorola radios will also be replaced on both units. This is a cost-effective way to extend the useful life of both vehicles, according to Fire Rescue information.
“We decided it would be more cost-effective to send out these ambulances to be refurbished rather than purchase new ones. It takes several years to have a new ambulance built and delivered,” said Frasher.
