A Lauderhill man was arrested after allegedly threatening another man with a machete and a pitbull before damaging his vehicle.
According to a Lauderhill Police Department arrest report, Keith Andrew Edwards, 58, was taken into custody on June 30 after officers responded to an incident near the 4700 block of Northwest 14th Street.
Records show the victim told officers Edwards, reportedly holding a pit bull in one hand and a machete in the other, approached him and declared, “I come to kill you.”
The victim fled on foot, circling a nearby van and shouting for help. Edwards then allegedly struck the victim’s vehicle multiple times with the machete, shattering the windshield and passenger-side window before the blade broke in half.
The report indicates that Edwards was arrested shortly after near Northwest 13th Court and Northwest 47th Avenue. During questioning, he admitted to damaging the car and claimed he acted in self-defense during a verbal dispute stemming from an old conflict.
A witness at the scene told police she saw Edwards charge the victim with the dog and machete while making threats, and confirmed he damaged the vehicle.
Edwards was arrested and transported to the Broward Main Jail, where he is also currently being held without bond on four separate felony probation violations, stemming from previous charges of aggravated assault on a person over 65, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm, and aggravated stalking with a credible threat.
