A Tamarac man is behind bars after deputies say he sexually assaulted a woman inside their home, spat on a child, and threatened to shoot everyone just hours after being approved for a gun purchase.
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Christopher Jason Smith, 48, was arrested on March 16 at his residence on Northwest 19th Terrace, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office report.
Deputies began investigating after the victim reported a domestic incident that allegedly occurred in the early morning hours of March 15. According to investigators, the woman told deputies that Smith sexually assaulted her inside the home, and that only her attempts to fight him off and a minor interrupting the assault prevented her from being raped.
Authorities say the woman was being digitally assaulted by Smith when the teenage female came out of her room and tried to intervene. During the confrontation, Smith allegedly turned his aggression toward the child, including spitting on her and pulling her hair, investigators said.
Deputies reported the victim sustained visible injuries consistent with being restrained during an attempted rape.
When law enforcement attempted to take Smith into custody, he allegedly ran from deputies, where he was later apprehended by a K-9 unit that bit him multiple times during the arrest, according to the report.
Investigators also noted that Smith made threats to shoot and kill his wife only hours after being approved to purchase a firearm.
After being taken into custody, Smith was transported to Broward General Medical Center for evaluation before being booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
