Dr. Dovid Imbo

Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac invites residents to a Shabbat with theoretical physicist Dr. Dovid Imbo on Friday, Nov.12.
Dr. Imbo grew up in Chicago and received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988. He did postdoctoral work at Harvard University and has been a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois at Chicago since 1992.
His research focuses on the connections between quantum physics, mathematics, formal logic, and pure philosophy. Dr. Imbo converted to Judaism in March 2017.
Rabbi Kopel Silberberg said the community is excited for the opportunity to host Dr. Imbo and share Shabbat with him.
“He has a fascinating story and keeps crowds spellbound for hours. Dr. Imbo is known for connecting the deepest parts of science with different areas of Judaism,” he said.
Dr. Imbo will share his story of going from the violent streets of the West Side of Chicago to the halls of Harvard University to the orthodox synagogues of West Rogers Park.
In his work, he connects cutting-edge physics research and the worldview of the Kabbalistic and Chassidic masters.
Shabbat with Dr. Dovid Imbo starts with candle lighting at 5.15, followed by dinner and talk at 6 pm. It costs $25 to participate. Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac is located at 8100 N. University Drive.
