District Three Commissioner Krystal Patterson continues to fulfill her public advocacy goals. On Thursday, she paid respect to Tamarac’s Kings Point retirement community by declaring a street named in good faith for its long-term residents.
The honorary acknowledgment of Kings Point Way, now located at the intersection of NW 80th Street and NW 108 Avenue, further unites and celebrates the town’s cultural value.
As it developed between 1983 and 2001, the active senior community features 13 subdivisions with 4,869 units, ranging from villas to low-maintenance condos to homes, all accompanied by calming water views.
A wide range of proactive amenities is readily available to town residents. Popular activities include Bingo, Painting, water aerobics, and attending the Palace Theatre, which provides dance, film, and comedy entertainment.

Patterson, a longtime Tamarac resident, has had a rather ‘Krystal’ clear vision to address public safety, economic development, and communal progress in the city. Through the aims of revitalizing neighborhoods and philanthropic nature, she found it necessary to publicly recognize Kings Point and its role in the city of Tamarac’s legacy.
The idea to host the event came to fruition after she met with residents during her most recent commission election campaign, during which she actively promoted her senior citizen protection initiatives.
“Kings Point is undoubtedly a staple in this community,” stated Patterson. “During my campaign, I met hundreds of residents who inspired this initiative. There is so much rich history hidden in this community, so I thought it appropriate to honor the 9,000-plus residents through this street renaming.”
Kings Point also takes pride in its multicultural heritage. Many Tamarac residents hail from Jamaica and Puerto Rico and are of Jewish and Italian descent. About 36% are immigrants to the United States from another country.
Hailing from a multicultural background, Patterson highlighted the magnitude behind the ribbon-cutting celebration and the critical role of diversity in developing progressive community empowerment.
“Diversity in culture, age, thought, etc, is the impetus for how I, along with the staff, could deliver an initiative like this in Tamarac today,” Patterson elaborated.
“A very first of its kind in our community. Our city has long resisted change in various ways, but we are beginning to see that change is necessary and good.”
The event included appearances from Tamarac Mayor Michele Gomez, Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine, statements made by Kings Point residents, elected officials, and other community members.
Patterson hopes to inspire Tamarac residents to practice cultural awareness and unity in their neighborhoods through her socially proactive efforts.
“Spread truth, not hate,” shared Patterson. “I encourage those who genuinely have pride in our community to help highlight positivity and the good work being done. I am intentional about delivering results. I was elected to do the work, and that’s what I will continue to do.”
