Good Samaritans intervened at a Tamarac shopping plaza after a man allegedly choked his pregnant girlfriend and attacked a 16-year-old girl.
Broward Sheriff’s Office records show deputies responded on October 2 to the 5263 block of North State Road 7, within the Tamarac Square Shopping Plaza, following a report of a battery.
According to the arrest affidavit, a woman had arranged to meet her boyfriend, Kendrick Jean Baptiste, 24, of Margate, to return some of his belongings.
Investigators said Jean Baptiste became upset during the encounter and grabbed the woman by the neck and choked her. The woman was pregnant with his child, and authorities said Jean Baptiste knew she was pregnant.
A 16-year-old girl attempted to intervene, but told police Jean Baptiste then turned toward her and struck her multiple times with a closed fist, including blows to her face and jaw, before eventually choking her as well.
Several unidentified people in the shopping plaza parking lot then stepped in and separated Jean Baptiste from the victims before deputies arrived, according to the affidavit.
Jean Baptiste was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
