
J.P. Taravella Boys Volleyball Team. {David Volz}
As the year goes on, J.P. Taravella continues to shine, highlighted by playoff runs and first wins.
Victor Dixon, Jacob Rosen, and Enzo Amado won a District Championship in wrestling. Caiden Canales, Amir Sameem, and Devin Przchodny placed second. Louis Hernandez was the lone Trojan to come in third, Caden Ankele, Andrew Hines, Caiden Mesa placed fifth, and Jayden Pelletier came in sixth. At Regionals, Rosen was the lone qualifier for JPT after coming in fourth place. Hernandez, Canales, Amado, Dixon, Hines, Sameen, and Przchodny also won matches to help the team place 17th. Dixon went on to go to the State Championship but did not place.
J.P. Taravella had both the boys and girls teams win meets at Plantation High School. Michael Barnes and Akeem Beckford won their races, while Benjamin Joseph took first in the triple jump. The 4 x 800 relay team came in second with Craig Dennis, Dominic Martinez, Brandon Jameison, and Kevon McKinney. Dennis also placed second in two individual races, along with Scardy Fills and Joshua Reneau, to help the Trojans win by six.
The girls team dominated, winning by nearly 100 points, with all three of their relay teams taking first. Timya Johnson, Melany Alvarez, Patricia Costa, and Jada Thelwell finished first in the 4 x 100 meters, while Tranya Standley, Costa, Thelwell, and Morgan Miller won the 4 x 400 relay. Olivia Noel, Raquel Arne, Caileen Canales, and Camila Castillo came in first in the 4 x 800 relay. Individually, Costa won both her races in the hurdles, while Thelwell, Noel, and Canales all won, and Johnson and Arne came in second.
The baseball team is 8-4 this year following a Thursday win over Cardinal Newman High School. This was the first loss of the season for the Crusaders, who ranked fourth in the state. Michael Ghann tossed 6.1 innings before Joseph Ghann recorded the final two outs. Anthony Toizol drove in two, while J.C. Martinez, Tyler Morgan, Zach Stephens, and Jeremiah McFarlane drove in runs.
The softball team has won back-to-back games to improve to 4-3 following three straight wins. The Trojans defeated Coral Springs High School 16-0 before a pair of 18-0 wins at Deerfield Beach and Hollywood Hills High School. The boys’ lacrosse team is still searching for its first win. After being shut out in their first two games, the Trojans scored twice in 13-2 against South Plantation High School. They then scored six goals against Cooper City and seven against Pompano Beach High School, but they are winless this year.
The flag football team is 2-4, with wins over Plantation and West Broward High School. They outscored their opponents 32-6. They were shut out against Cypress Bay and Fort Lauderdale High School, scoring six against South Plantation High School. In volleyball, J.P. Taravella beat Coral Springs Charter 25-16, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19 for their first win but lost against Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Pembroke Pines Charter.
