J.P. Taravella Baseball. {BCAA}

The J.P. Taravella baseball team held its Senior Night on April 18.
The Trojans honored Michael Thomas, Thomas Fredericks, Alexander Rivera, Anthony Giglio, Brandon Metivier, Jake Tannenbaum, and William Villalobos before falling 2-1 in a tight game against Cypress Bay High School.
Metivier had one of his best starts of the season, pitching six innings and allowing only two runs on six innings. Despite picking up the loss, he struck out seven and allowed only five hits while E.J. Burns knocked in the only run for the Trojans. He also had two of the team’s five hits, along with Anthony Quigley, Jonathan Lopez, and Jacob Tannenbaum.
“I’d like to thank the booster club for making senior night special for these seniors and their families,” Head Coach Joe Giummule said. “Obviously, it wasn’t the outcome when wanted tonight, but Brandon, TJ, and Jake have been here all four years. Alex and Wilson came last year, and Michael and Anthony this year.”
Despite falling 2-1 in their next game, the Trojans closed the week out with back-t0-back wins over Deerfield Beach and Pembroke Pines Charter and have already won two games this week to move to finish the regular season at 15-8. They will have a bye in the opening round of the District Tournament and will play either Western or Coral Glades in the District Semifinals.
The J.P. Taravella boys volleyball team defeated Coconut Creek High School on Senior Night in three sets honoring Daniel Mejia, Leos Kennedy, Andre Mills, Daniel Freay, Nathan Hills, and Grayson S. They followed that up with another win on Wednesday against Coral Springs High School. They are now 6-6 this year and will play Cypress Bay in their final regular season matchup on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
While the softball team didn’t officially hold a Senior Night due to the rain earlier this month, Shanice Brunson, Alyssa Grierson, and Sabrina Naranjo have been vital parts of the team. The Trojans are also 6-7 this year and will play Coral Springs High School in the opening round of the District tournament on Monday at 6 p.m.
Also, J.P. Taravella’s lacrosse season came to an end. The boys had just one win against Coral Springs High School, while the girls’ lacrosse and flag football teams fell in the District Tournament against Coral Glades.
