The City of Tamarac has recently appointed Jemeriah Cooper as the new Broward Sheriff’s Office District Captain, succeeding former Captain Jeff Cirmienello, who was promoted to Major at BSO on March 11.
The personnel order announcing Cooper’s promotion became effective on April 8, and he will be formally introduced to the city commission at Wednesday’s meeting.
“I am very proud of the newly appointed District Chief for the City of Tamarac,” said Cirminiello, who now works in the Department of Administration at the BSO Headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale. “With years of experience in the field of law enforcement and a proven track record of leadership, [Cooper] brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position.”
According to BSO. Cooper is an experienced law enforcement officer with more than 20 years of progressively responsible experience in the field. He began his law enforcement career in 2000 as a correction officer for the State of Florida and transitioned to the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 2002, where he served as a detention deputy sheriff at the Broward County Jail and later as a field training deputy in the BSO’s Road Patrol Division.
In 2007, Cooper became a member of the BSO Honor Guard and served for 13 years. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2014, serving in the road patrol and civil divisions. In 2019, he was promoted to road patrol lieutenant, where he contributed to team building and operational procedures.
In March 2021, Cooper was appointed as Tamarac’s Executive Officer, providing leadership to over 100 employees and overseeing daily administrative and patrol functions. He also engaged with elected officials to ensure the overall success of the community and agency.
Cirminiello said Cooper’s public service and commitment to community policing make him a great candidate, and his ability to build strong relationships with community members and collaborate with other agencies will be key in maintaining a safe and thriving district.
