Despite the J.P. Taravella girls basketball season coming to an end on Tuesday, the girls soccer team picked up a huge 2-1  win over Coral Springs High School to advance to the District Final.

Mia Marshall-Hewitt, who finished with the most points in the District, scored a goal along with Mackenzie Nezat. Lili Meriser had an assist, while Danielle Tigner made four saves in net. Andrea Orjuals scored the only goal for the Colts.

“I have been preaching to these girls all year long that they can beat anybody as long as they play together as a team and believe in themselves, said Head Coach Alex Palmaz. “I’ve had high expectations for us since day one, and we showed it today, but it’s not over yet. Jobs not finished. One more game.”

JPT is now 11-3-1 this year and will play Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the Championship on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m.

The Eagles had a dominating win in their Semifinals match against Coral Glades and head into the Championship Game with a record of 13-1-1. Their only loss this year came against St. Thomas Aquinas High School in December.

The Colts finished the season with a record 0f 5-7-2 this year under Head Coach Mike Guardino.
