A man was arrested and faces multiple charges after allegedly threatening to “shoot up” the Broward County Sheriff’s Office if they did not release his girlfriend, who was being taken into custody under the Baker Act.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance in Tamarac at approximately 2:00 a.m. at the Sun Vista Garden apartment complex residence at the 5700 block of Rock Island Road. Upon arrival, deputies took a woman into custody under the Baker Act, which allows for the temporary detention of individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others due to mental health concerns.
While deputies were handling the situation, the woman’s boyfriend, later identified as Dawinx Dieujuste, 25, of Boca Raton, repeatedly interrupted officers and became belligerent, demanding they let her go.
The report indicates that Dieujuste was asked to leave the scene due to his behavior and the obstruction he caused, which he initially complied with.
A little over an hour later, at approximately 3:00 a.m., BSO Dispatch received a call from Dieujuste in which he reportedly cursed at dispatchers over his girlfriend’s detainment and demanded to speak with a sergeant. A second call soon followed, during which Dieujuste allegedly threatened to “shoot up the entire police agency.”
Having just dealt with Dieujuste and given the severity of the threat, deputies on the scene heightened their security measures, fearing that Dieujuste, who had just left, might return armed.
As deputies began to leave, they spotted a vehicle matching Dieujuste’s near the apartment complex’s entrance. Fearing being followed, a deputy acted to evade being followed before witnessing the car make a sudden U-turn and re-enter the apartment complex.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and took Dieujuste into custody. Upon arrest, Dieujuste initially admitted to calling 911 but later claimed he had said he would “sue” the police agency, not “shoot” them.
A search of his vehicle revealed suspected marijuana, a grinder containing residue, and a bong.
Dieujuste was transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.
