Mayor Michelle Gomez behind the wheel of one of the new fire trucks in Tamarac. {Kopel Silberberg}
Dear Neighbors,
Welcome to April! In springtime, we gather to celebrate new beginnings and enjoy all the beauty our wonderful South Florida environment has to offer!
Thank you to the 400+ two-legged guests who came out with their furbabies to support the 2025 Furever Friends Pet Expo! Commissioner Wright and I are grateful to the nine pet rescues and companion organizations that were on-site, along with the American Red Cross, who conducted Pet CPR sessions, and Tamarac Fire Rescue, who conducted hands-only CPR, as well as the over 40 vendors who were there to help keep our furbabies (and their people) healthy, happy and in-style! Please see the flyer attached to this email for a full list of vendors and links to all the wonderful rescue organizations that participated. We will share the 2026 Pet Expo date as soon as it is available. And a big Thank You, of course, to Team Tamarac – Park and Recreation, Public Services, Risk Management, BSO District 7, Fire Rescue, Public Information Office, and all our Volunteers!

Important City Government Updates
Tamarac’s Landlord Registration Program is now active. The City of Tamarac has enacted a Residential Rental Property Registration ordinance to improve communication with landlords and ensure timely resolution of health, safety, and housing violations. Online registration is free and easy! Owners can visit the “How Do I” section on the City of Tamarac website, select “Register,” scroll to “For Residential Landlord Registration” and complete the process on a new tab that will open. Failure to register may result in enforcement actions against the property owner, so please register today or call Code Enforcement with any questions at (954) 597-3425.
At our strategic planning meeting earlier in March, there was consensus among the majority of the Commission to move the Public Participation portion back to its original place on the Commission meeting agenda. For the change to take place, the matter must be scheduled voted upon at two commission meetings. It was approved at the first reading on March 26th and the second is scheduled for the 7:00 p.m. meeting on Wednesday, April 9th. Thank you for reaching out about this issue, and I am glad your voices are being heard!
Are you planning to get your degree or certification, or know someone who is? Applications open April 1st at 9:00 a.m. for the 2025 Tamarac Scholars Program! Whether just graduating or going back for knowledge, the City is dedicated to empowering its residents by offering financial assistance to support educational and career development through the Tamarac Scholarship Fund. Thanks to an idea from Commissioner Morey Wright, Jr., and funding provided by Waste Management, each of us on the Commission can award up to nine (9) scholarships of up to $2,500.00 each to award residents attending 2-year or 4-year colleges or universities or trade schools. You do not need to have a high school diploma to apply! For more information and applications that must be submitted online, please use this link: www.tamarac.org/1466/Tamarac-Scholars-Program. Good luck to all applicants!
Tamarac’s Housing Assistance programs for the current year are getting underway as well. Applications for the First Time Home Buyers program will open on June 2nd, and those for the Minor Home Repair program will open on August 18th. Details about the programs and application process can be found at www.tamarac.org/367/Housing-Administration.
