Tamarac State of the City address by Mayor Michelle Gomez. {City of Tamarac}
Dear Neighbors,
Welcome to August! As our steamy South Florida summer weather turns into sizzling hot, there are plenty of events coming up this month to help you have fun with friends and family, whether in or out of the sun.
But before we get to the fun stuff… many have reached out sharing their concerns regarding the water levels and look of the City’s canals. The City sent out a notice stating:
Due to ongoing drought conditions and limited rainfall, canal water levels in Tamarac and nearby cities are lower than normal. This is impacting the appearance of the canals and reducing the overall water supply. While canal maintenance remains on a regular schedule, treatments like spraying depend on oxygen and pH levels. Spraying at the wrong time could lead to fish kills and larger issues. Many residents, communities, and golf courses also use canal water for irrigation, which adds to the draw on water levels during these dry periods. We’re actively monitoring the canals and weather forecasts and will adjust operations as conditions improve.
While it may not look pretty right now, with the expected rainfall this summer, may they fill to safe levels soon but not too full that we will start to worry about having to drain them.
If you use canal water for your irrigation, please consider turning your system off and hand water until such time the water levels resume to their normal levels.
Now back to packing your calendar with things to do!

We did it again! A three-peat!
