Cork and Barrel Wine Bar and Tapas is ready to stir things up in the city’s dining scene.
Opening in March for breakfast and lunch, the restaurant is preparing to start serving early dinner after Mother’s Day.
Owner and founder Santese Gatlin said the idea behind the restaurant was to create something fun and casual. After working for years for large companies and always “cooking other people’s concepts and ideas,” Gatlin decided to try something new.
“I said, how about I put my crazy on the plate? I wanted to own something, be able to change the menu, and have some fun. Some friends and investors believed in my vision, and here we are,” he added.

The menu features small plates and cuisine from all over the Caribbean region and the world.
From the Tamarac Breakfast and traditional Shrimp and Grits to Avocado Toast and Pasta Alfredo, Gatlin hopes every guest will find “something on the menu that will tickle their tastebuds.”
Gatlin’s partner and investor Quentin Newman said Cork and Barrel want to have a “Chick-fil-a customer service with Cheers vibe.”
“We want to build that relationship with the community, know the regulars’ names, make people feel at home,” he added.
Gatlin and Newman said the vibrant menu would change often and feature new dishes.
“If I walk into the farmers market and lamb chops are on sale — guess what? We are cooking lamb today,” said Gatlin, adding that 3 p.m. is always a good time to be at the restaurant because the chefs are trying out new recipes and often offer a taste to the patrons.
He said the city has been very supportive of the business, and the staff is getting some great feedback from the local diners.
The Cork and Barrel owners hope to give back and truly immerse themselves in the community by becoming the go-to place for family get-togethers, business dinners, and back-to-school events.
“Doing business in Tamarac has been great so far. We are really embraced by the local community and are so thankful and excited to be here,” said Gatlin.
The Cork and Barrel are located at 10052 McNab Road in Tamarac. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony are held on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event promises to be a grand celebration, with DJ, local vendors, a $100 raffle contest, and lunch specials.
