
Extended Stay in Tamarac {Google Maps}
An off-duty Lauderhill Police Department officer fatally shot two dogs Monday while protecting his own canines at a Tamarac hotel, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting around noon at the Extended Stay America at 3873 West Commercial Blvd. Deputies at the scene found two dogs that had been shot and killed.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the two dogs had been attacking two other dogs at the property, according to BSO.
The owner of the dogs being attacked shot the other two dogs, authorities said.
The man who opened fire is an off-duty Lauderhill officer, according to BSO. His name was not immediately made public Monday.
BSO’s Special Victims and Crime Scene units responded to investigate the shooting.  The investigation is active and ongoing, authorities said.
