After much deliberation, the Tamarac city commission has voted to approve the proposed millage rate, leaving it unchanged for the 10th year in a row, pending further discussions in future public hearings.
By the end of the budget workshop on July 7, the members of the city commission remained undecided on the recommendation to keep the rate at 7.2899 mills –6.55% higher than the rollback rate of 6.648 mills based on the July 1 certified values, which result in a 1.4% increase on property taxes.
At the July 14 meeting, Budget Director Jeff Streder explained that the impact on the taxpayer with an assessed property value of $75,000 to $500,000 would range from $7.65 to $51.03.
At the proposed rate, Streder explained that city revenue would increase by $2,234,957, but due to increased costs, it’s not a surplus.
The motion passed 3-2 with Commissioners Bolton and Gelin voting no.
The next public hearing is September 13, 2021.
