Registration for the 41st Annual Tamarac Turkey Trot 5K is open, and early birds get a discount over the next week.

The race starts on Thanksgiving morning, on Thursday, November 24, at 7:30 a.m.

The 5K (3.1 miles) course is USATF certified. The route is flat and fast, with many corners through the Woodmont area of Tamarac. The race starts at 77th St. on Pine Island Road, follows east on 75th, north on 80th, loops back to Pine Island Road, then south to the finish line at the City Hall.

Early Bird registration is $20 and ends on October 15. Then it’s $30 from October 16 to November 15 and $35 from November 16 to 23. Registration for the Turkey Trot closes at noon on November 23 — or once the race sells out. There are currently over 1,900 spots still available. Runners without registration will not be able to join on race day.

All participants can pick up their packets on November 21-23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tamarac Community Center or starting at 6.30 a.m. on the race day at Tamarac City Hall.

Age divisions are 9 and under, 10 – 12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+, for male and female runners.

Trophies are awarded to first overall, three finishers based on gun time, and winners in each age group are awarded for first, second, and third place. These will be presented at Tamarac City Hall after the race.

The first 1,500 registered runners will receive commemorative t-shirts, and all finishers wearing a race bib will receive a medal.

The city will set up water stations at the first and second mile markers and provide a variety of food and refreshments for all participants following the race.

Turkey Trot donations benefit the Parks and Recreation Foundation of Tamarac and will be used to provide funding for youth program grants, scholarships, park equipment, and recreation events. Runners can make additional donations during the online registration.
