A deadly crash in Tamarac on February 13 has taken another life.
Kelsie Anderson’s grandmother Andrea, 68 (the family asks to withhold the last name), who was thrown from the vehicle, passed away on February 20 after spending a week in a medically-induced coma.
Andrea had worked for Broward County Public Schools for over 20 years and volunteered at the American Legion four to five times a week. The family lived off of McNab and University, down the street from where the accident occurred.
Also traveling in the vehicle was her Aunt Stacy, who was killed instantly, and cousin Dylan who survived.
According to Kelsie, her family members were going to pick up a birthday cake for Dylan’s brother. The impact caused the Hyundai to roll over.
“My grandmother’s vehicle rolled five times, and my aunt and grandmother were ejected from the car.”
Both were airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center.
According to investigators, the family was traveling westbound in their 2019 Hyundai Tuscon SUV at the 7300 block of West McNab Road when they turned left into the north entrance of the University Commons shopping mall.
At the same time, Frantz Laine, 19, of Pompano Beach, who was driving a 2014 Lexus IS250 eastbound, struck the Hyundai with such force that the engine became detached from the vehicle before flipping over and coming to a final rest on the driver’s side.
The Lexus went off the roadway, where it struck a fire hydrant, several bushes, a large plaza sign, and an unoccupied parked vehicle.

Kelsie started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for her grandmother’s medical bills before her death. The campaign, which raised $3,388 in just three days, will now be used to cover funeral costs.
She expressed her family’s gratitude for the overwhelming love and support they have received from the community.
“A lot of people, many of whom we don’t even know personally, have been reaching out to our family just to offer thoughts and prayers. We are very grateful,” she said.
