The City of Tamarac is embarking on a comprehensive plan update that aims to shape the city’s future development over the next 20 years by providing a long-range planning policy direction.
The comprehensive plan is vital for long-term planning and zoning initiatives that guide future land use and infrastructure decisions. It incorporates extensive data and analyses, such as population projections, infrastructure performance, and inventories of public facilities. The updated plan will serve as the foundation for zoning codes, enabling the implementation of the city’s vision.
2040 Comprehensive Plan Update
To ensure the comprehensive plan reflects the community’s needs and desires, the city is hosting public input workshops in Districts 2, 3, and 4.
The District 2 workshop, led by Mayor Michelle J. Gomez and Commissioner Morey Wright Jr., will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Tamarac Community Center.
Mayor Michelle J. Gomez and Commissioner Kicia Daniel will lead the District 4 workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, at the Woodmont Country Club.
The District 3 workshop, led by Mayor Michelle J. Gomez and Commissioner Elvin Villalobos, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdat, June 20, at the Kings Point Theater.
The previous major update occurred between 2007 and 2009, with subsequent changes addressing specific development areas. The 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update seeks to reorganize the current plan around long-term goals and make it more accessible online.
These workshops provide an opportunity for residents, elected officials, advisory boards, and city staff to actively participate in shaping the future of Tamarac.
Multi-Modal Transportation Connectivity Master Plan
In addition to the comprehensive plan update, the city is developing a Multi-Modal Transportation Connectivity Master Plan to address current and future transportation needs.
This plan will focus on enhancing various transportation modes, including vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, transit, and multi-use paths, to improve connectivity and safety and eliminate traffic-related incidents.
Residents interested in participating in the workshops and contributing to the 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update can register for the Notify Me list on the city’s webpage. These interactive workshops, conducted in spring 2023, offer valuable opportunities to provide input and influence the city’s policy-making and development decisions.
