A Lauderhill restaurant was ordered closed earlier this month after a routine inspection revealed unsanitary conditions, including a roach infestation and improper food temperature protocols.
Sunshine Bistros, located at 1619 North State Road 7, was shut down on May 14 after inspectors from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation cited the restaurant for 11 health violations.
According to the inspection report, roach activity was present throughout the establishment. Inspectors observed live roaches in the kitchen area beneath a prep table and near a mop sink, among other regions noted.
The report noted that the restaurant staff removed the dead roaches and sanitized the area.
Inspectors also flagged the restaurant for using an unapproved method to cool food, noting that items such as cooked chicken were not cooling quickly enough to meet food safety standards. Per health codes, cooked food must cool to 41°F within four hours to prevent bacterial growth.
Other violations included a dirty microwave with food debris, grease buildup on kitchen hood filters, and multiple soiled nonfood-contact surfaces.
The restaurant must correct all violations and pass a follow-up inspection before reopening to the public.
