Tamarac City Hall {City of Tamarac}
Tamarac residents and business owners may have opportunities to establish relationships with people in Kingston, Jamaica, and Pickering, Canada, through the Sister Cities International program.
During the March 11 meeting, the commission received a presentation by a committee that researched potential sister cities.
An important goal of a sister city relationship is to promote peaceful relationships through mutual respect and cooperation between cities. The presentation encourages leaders from educational institutions, non-profits, and businesses to establish strong relationships.
Kingston, with about 600,000 residents, is home to an urban population and multicultural communities. This diversity creates opportunities to build relationships between the two cities’ hospitality, small-business, and arts sectors. The presentation also highlighted prospects for academic and internship exchange.
Located in southern Ontario near Toronto, Pickering has about 117,000 residents and is considered a multicultural city. To foster collaboration, efforts would be made to share Caribbean festivals and golf tourism between the two cities.
