The Tamarac Fire Rescue ALS Competition team won first place in the 2022 North American Vehicle Rescue Association (NAVRA) Advanced Life Support Medical Challenge.
According to Van Schoen, Public Information Officer for Tamarac Fire Rescue, this annual hands-on educational competition allows teams of first responders across the U.S., Canada, and Europe to improve their skills to serve their communities better.
The challenge took place in Miami on November 20, with competing teams from 14 different cities and counties participating in real-life, team-based scenario training designed to promote good team dynamics, improve communication, and increase rescue scene proficiency. Schoen added that the competition consisted of triaging multiple patients and being scored on a Primary Survey, patient condition history, patient complaints and symptoms, Head to Toe Examination, and Interventions.
Tamarac Fire Rescue Captain Michael Boyhan, Lieutenant Mais, and Firefighters Avril and Curbelo were on the winning team. “Their continued training and dedication have proven to be successful, as earlier this year, this team won first place at the Bill Shearer ClinCon International Competition,” said Schoen.
