Tamarac Holds Launch Party for New Fitness Court

Tamarac’s new Fitness Court has now become a reality.

Proposed last March, the large circuit training facility located at Tephord Park will have a wall with several fitness components placed on it.

Fitness Courts, including Tephord Park’s, are designed to provide full-body functional workouts for adults of all ability levels, and include 30 pieces of bodyweight equipment, ranging from plyometric squat boxes and rowing handles to agility dots and bending stations, that can be used in thousands of ways, based on seven essential movements.

In addition to the physical space, their digital presence and the app that pairs with their courts allow people to find the workout that works best for them, and the group workouts allow them to find a sense of community while doing so.

Fitness Courts also provide space for competition, though that won’t be part of the launch party.

When it was proposed in March, the total budget was $240,772, and the parks and recreation department agreed to sponsor $20,000 of it.

Now, after approval and eight months of planning and building, the state-of-the-art open-air gym is now open — and appropriate for ages 14 and up.

To celebrate the occasion, they’re offering a free workout called “The PULSE,” a 35-minute, high-intensity group workout.  The Pulse will target the upper body, lower body, core, and flexibility.

“This will bring more engagement and physical fitness to the community, and we’re very excited to launch!” said Recreation Assistant Jahmale Hepburn.

In addition to burning some calories and sweating off those Thanksgiving carbs, the event will feature swag bag giveaways, snacks, samples, and music.

The pulse class will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 11:35 a.m., and proper workout attire is encouraged.

The full launch party will take place on Saturday, December 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Tephord Park  Fitness Court, 10003 Southgate Boulevard.
