The City of Tamarac is holding a Third Annual Youth Anti-Human Trafficking Summit “Sound the Alarm” allowing residents and local youth groups to take part in raising awareness of the missing children in Broward County.
The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Shanika Ampah, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and human trafficking and a founder of Guiding Light Outreach Inc. The nonprofit addresses social issues and traumatic events victims deal with.
Dr. Ampah works with unaddressed trauma, striving to create better communities and support for the victims. A Miami native, the motivational speaker is an alumna of the National Human Trafficking Training and Assistance Center based in Washington, D.C., and the Human Trafficking Leadership Academy.
The “Sound the Alarm” summit is held on Saturday, January 8, from 11 am to 1 pm. High school students who participate receive three hours of community service.
Held at the Tamarac Community Center located at 8601 W Commercial Blvd. The event is free but registration is encouraged.
Light lunch will be served for in-person participants. Masks are required for all registrants attending, regardless of vaccination status.
