A Tamarac man faces a domestic battery charge after deputies say a fight with a victim over candy bars escalated into a knife-and-gun confrontation.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Brian Joseph Yusavage, 33, was arrested on November 3 after deputies said he assaulted the victim and pulled out a firearm during an argument over chocolate candy.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence located near the 2500 block of Northwest 54th Street. Upon arrival, investigators were told Yusavage confronted the victim after discovering he had eaten his chocolate.
Records show the victim told deputies Yusavage entered the bedroom and began arguing with the victim while he was lying in bed. When he stood up, Yusavage allegedly shoved him against a wall, causing him to fall to the floor.
A physical struggle followed. Deputies said Yusavage got on top of the victim and punched him in the face before getting off him and leaving the room.
According to the report, Yusavage then realized he had left his phone charger behind and returned to retrieve it. The victim pulled out a pocketknife because he feared Yusavage would attack him again.
Upon seeing the knife, Yusavage pulled out a gun from his waistband and pointed it toward the victim while backing out of the bedroom, deputies said. He then closed the door, left the house, and waited for law enforcement.
The investigating deputy determined that both men drew their weapons out of fear of being attacked, so neither was charged with weapons-related crimes.
Yusavage was arrested on a charge of domestic battery stemming from the alleged shoving and punching. Deputies transported him to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.
