A Tamarac man won a $1 million top prize in a Florida Lottery scratch-off game, lottery officials said Friday.
Charles Larocco, 67, claimed the prize with his winning “Millionaire Maker” ticket at the Florida Lottery’s West Palm Beach District Office, Lottery officials said. Officials said that Larocco chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.
Larocco bought the $5 scratch-off ticket at the Oakland Shell gas station at 8787 W. Oakland Blvd. in Sunrise. The retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
According to the Lottery, “Millionaire Maker” launched in May and features over 5.7 million winning tickets, including six top prizes of $1 million.
The overall odds of choosing a winning a ticket of any kind are 1-in-3.87, and players can win up to 14 times on each ticket, officials said.
Scratch-off games in the Sunshine State have generated more than $19.50 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, according to the Lottery.
