A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a deputy-involved crash in Tamarac Monday that left a civilian driver dead.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the dead man as Ronald Wilson. He had been rushed to an area hospital after the late-night crash near West Prospect Road and Northwest 31st Avenue and was later pronounced dead.
Sean Paul Holder, 30, is charged with murder by another while engaged in a specified felony in connection with the incident. He also faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, grand theft auto, driving while license suspended, and petit theft related to a previous active warrant.
According to BSO, deputies began pursuing Holder following an aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, which is classified as a forcible felony. Earlier that night, a stolen vehicle out of Margate had been spotted in Tamarac after a Be On The Lookout alert was issued.
During the vehicle pursuit of Holder, a BSO patrol vehicle and a civilian vehicle crashed. A second crash involving the stolen vehicle Holder was allegedly driving happened a short time later, and he was taken into custody, authorities said.
BSO Deputy Brian Quintal, who was involved in the fatal crash, is currently recovering from his injuries, according to BSO.
BSO’s Homicide, Violent Crimes and Internal Affairs units are actively investigating the circumstances of the incident. Following an administrative review, the case will be sent to the agency’s Pursuit Review Board, which reviews all vehicle pursuits, authorities said.
