The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season is underway, running from June 1 through November 30, and the City of Tamarac is reminding residents to take steps now to stay safe and prepared.
According to a statement from the city, this year’s season is forecasted to be more active than usual, with meteorologists predicting 12 to 17 named storms, including 6 to 9 hurricanes and 3 to 5 major hurricanes classified as Category 3 or higher.
While daily life may seem unaffected during clear skies, storms can develop rapidly and bring significant disruption. Tamarac officials urge residents to act early by assembling emergency supply kits, securing their homes, and reviewing evacuation plans. Emergency kits should include essential items such as non-perishable food, water, flashlights, batteries, and necessary medications.
Staying informed is a key part of hurricane preparedness. The City of Tamarac will provide timely updates across multiple platforms, including its official website, social media channels, and email alerts. Residents are encouraged to subscribe to the city’s hurricane alerts and enroll in the CodeRed Emergency Notification system to receive real-time information directly to their phones.
Throughout the season, Tamarac will continue to share safety tips and preparedness updates to help the community respond quickly and effectively if a storm approaches.
Now is the time to prepare. By planning ahead and staying alert, Tamarac residents can help ensure a safer and more coordinated response during hurricane season. For more information, visit www.tamarac.org.
