New details have emerged following initial reports of a 7-Eleven carjacking in Tamarac, revealing that the incident was part of a broader same-day crime spree.
The crime, first reported by Local 10 News, is now alleged to be one of multiple violent acts committed that day, with court records showing a Tamarac man is accused of attacking and seriously injuring a woman before carjacking, kidnapping, and robbing a second victim at the nearby convenience store.
Arrest records show Kenneth Cole Harp, 42, was arrested on January 30 after Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators connected him to two separate but closely timed crimes in Tamarac.
Deputies were first dispatched around 8:03 a.m. to the Comfort Suites hotel at 8301 West Commercial Boulevard after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.
According to an arrest affidavit, Harp’s former girlfriend had gone to the hotel to return personal documents to him. While she was seated inside her vehicle, investigators say Harp punched her in the face multiple times.
The woman suffered visible injuries, including bleeding from her nose and a cut lip, and was transported to HCA Woodmont Hospital. Surveillance footage from the hotel reportedly recorded the assault.
Court records show Harp fled the scene on foot, where investigators allege just minutes later he encountered a second victim at a 7-Eleven on West Commercial Boulevard and committed a carjacking to escape the area.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Harp entered the victim’s vehicle while the man was seated in the driver’s seat, refused to exit, and told the victim that police were coming.
Harp then allegedly directed the victim to drive to multiple locations, demanded his cellphone, and coerced him into arranging a $500 Zelle transfer.
Authorities noted the victim has a documented cognitive impairment, which they say made him particularly vulnerable during the encounter.
During a recorded interview, Harp admitted to entering the vehicle and arranging the money transfer but claimed the encounter was voluntary. He said it was possible the victim was scared, however, because he “jumped in the car” and told the victim he was “in trouble,” the arrest report stated.
Harp was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
