Eligible Tamarac residents can receive free workforce and skill training courses through Broward College.

Lori Funderwhite, Tamarac’s Economic Development Manager, said the college had received grant funding offering selected certifications and courses for eligible residents through their Broward UP and Rapid Credentialing programs.

Both programs are funded through various grants awarded directly to Broward College, and each program varies in its eligibility criteria for free tuition.

The BrowardUP program aims to help residents get the training needed to find a good job, make more money, and get the necessary skills to thrive in their careers. Courses include Medical Billing and Coding, Pharmacy Technician, and OSHA Standards in Construction, Marketing, and Project Management.

Rapid Credentials is designed to train workers in minimum time to help them start a high-wage career in STEM fields, Manufacturing, Health Sciences, and Education.

Funderwhite said the city’s Economic Development Division is proud to partner with Broward College and promote educational opportunities for Tamarac residents to enhance career skills in local growth industries.

The free tuition courses are available to residents residing in specific zip codes, and Tamarac includes a portion of two of them (33309 and 33319) in their overall program.

She added that Broward College has other internal and external funding opportunities for residents. She has assigned a Career Pathway Navigator, Hans Dorva, to assist Tamarac residents with determining available options. She can be reached at hdorval@broward.edu or 954-201-7403; mention the City of Tamarac referral.
