Two men from Lauderhill have been charged with multiple counts of armed robbery after a comprehensive multi-agency investigation revealed their role in a string of crimes.
The investigation uncovered that they had been luring victims through fraudulent PlayStation 5 ads posted on OfferUp.
Multiple arrest records show the men, Jacari Grace, 18, of Lauderhill, and Marqus Hicks, 20, of Lauderhill, were taken into custody following an investigation into at least two Offer Up robberies, the first occurring on July 30.
According to Lauderhill Police, the first victim responded to an OfferUp listing, which advertised a PlayStation 5 for $250; after exchanging contact information and confirming the deal through FaceTime, the victim arranged to meet the seller at a location in Lauderhill.Â
Upon arriving, the victim told law enforcement they were approached by two men, later identified as Grace and Hicks, who demanded the money and told the victim there would be no PlayStation provided in return.Â
The victim told investigators that once they handed over the cash, one of the men pulled out a pistol and told the victim to leave the scene.Â
Following the first robbery, the Lauderhill Police Department quickly launched an investigation and disseminated a flyer to other law enforcement agencies to help identify the suspects.Â
According to BSO records, on August 1, deputies in Tamarac apprehended two men in connection with a similar robbery involving a PlayStation 5 that had occurred earlier that day.Â
Records show that the victim responded to a similar OfferUp listing in the second robbery and agreed to meet the seller at his home. When the sellers arrived, they instead directed the victim to meet them at a nearby parking spot, where they demanded he send $300 via Cash App to their account before one of the men pulled out a handgun.
Once in custody, Lauderhill Police Department interviewed Grace, who admitted to his involvement in the robberies. Grace also identified Hicks as the other individual involved.Â
Both men were later shown surveillance footage and images from the robbery, which they confirmed were of themselves. Grace also admitted that he was the one who had pulled a firearm during the robbery.
Both men were transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
