A man was arrested after deputies say he intentionally threw a dumbbell at another man inside a Tamarac gym, striking him and causing serious injuries.
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Miguel Ramirez Rabadan, 29, of Boynton Beach, was arrested on July 16 and charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability, a second-degree felony.Â
According to the probable cause affidavit, deputies responded to Crunch Fitness, located at 4017 West Commercial Boulevard, following reports of an aggravated battery.
When deputies arrived, gym management had already detained Ramirez Rabadan.
After being taken into custody, Ramirez Rabadan admitted he became angry while working out and threw a 27.5-pound dumbbell directly at another person. He allegedly told deputies the victim “did not do anything to instigate the battery.”
The victim told deputies he had been exercising when he suddenly felt pain in his right shoulder and back. He said Ramirez Rabadan had approached from behind before he was struck. The victim also reported seeing several people run after the suspect immediately following the incident.
The extent of the victim’s injuries is not stated in the report.
Ramirez Rabadan was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
