A man faces multiple felony charges after threatening to assault a Broward Sheriff’s Office Community Service Aide with a pair of nunchucks.
On March 29, a Broward Sheriff’s Office Community Service Aide conducted a routine investigation of a vehicle crash in Tamarac when he was aggressively confronted by a man, later identified as David Caprice Hickey, 47, of Lauderhill.
Eyewitness accounts and BSO reports indicate that Hickey aggressively approached the CSA, brandishing a set of nunchucks and making physical threats.
Hickey reportedly wrapped the nunchucks around his neck, threatening to hit the CSA and yelling, “I have nunchucks; lethal fucking weapons!”
In response, the CSA attempted to de-escalate the situation by advising Hickey to remain calm and not interfere with the ongoing investigation. However, the problem only escalated when Hickey suddenly moved to take the nunchucks off his neck, prompting the CSA to flee to his vehicle and call for backup.
Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and detained Hickey. He was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
Hickey faces charges of assault, threatening a law enforcement officer, and obstructing the lawful execution of a legal duty.
