The Chabad Jewish Center of Tamarac invites the community to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with special services, including the “Shofar and Tashlich at the Park.”
The shofar, ram’s horn, is the central symbol of Rosh Hashanah, and synagogues blast the shofar every day for a month leading up to the holiday, culminating with a sequence of one hundred blasts during the Rosh Hashanah services.
Shofar and Tashlich at the Park
“Shofar and Tashlich at the Park” is a short outdoor service that includes the primary observances of the holiday, activities, and treats for the kids.
“This is an annual tradition and a real crowd favorite,” said Rabbi Silberberg, who adds the service is open to all and will take place at Veteran Park on Thursday, October 3, at 5 p.m.
He said the park event lets the broader community join the central observance of Rosh Hashanah, the shofar sounding.
He explained that Tashlich is a practice rich in symbolic and mystical meaning. A brief prayer is recited near a body of water, preferably containing live fish, in which Jews express prayerful hope that their indiscretions will be cast into the depths of the sea and that they will be granted a good and sweet new year filled with abundant blessings.
