On Friday, the City of Tamarac held its 50th Anniversary Time Capsule Dedication at the Tamarac Community Center.
Instead of burying it, this Time Capsule, which resembles a piece of furniture, will sit in the lobby with glass artwork above it. The art was created by glass artist Christopher Reisert from Reflective Collections, Inc., and the cabinetry housing it by furniture designer Angelo Maybin. It will remain sealed until July 19th, 2038 and opened every 25 years after that.
The Time Capsule was donated by the Tamarac Historical Society whose members were on hand for this special day. Former City of Tamarac Public Information Officer and founder of the Historical Society Chad Quinn, who had moved out of state, came back for this historical occasion and to visit with old friends in the city.
Barbara Tarnove, President of the Historical Society invited schools in Tamarac to participate in an essay contest for the event. Winners included: Jodan Superville of Charter School of Excellence; Tom Lopez of Challenger Elementary; Madison Vasquez of Challenger Elementary and Joema Dorismar of Millennium Middle School.
Also in attendance was Sheriff Scott Israel who spoke to the residents along with the Mayor and Commissioners.
Following the Time Capsule unveiling, residents were invited for a free barbecue and live entertainment.
